Cory’s Corner: The NFL Chooses Money over Safety


There is only one reason why the NFL does things and that reason is money.

The NFL has instituted a 15-yard penalty for lowering the head to initiate and make contact with another helmet.

The reason? The NFL doesn’t want to pay any more lawsuits. The concussion settlement is approaching $1 billion. I understand the rule from the money perspective, because the Shield cannot keep paying out that kind of money.

However, you cannot pass a rule without having a plan in place. Questions remain about how this will be enforced…
