McKenna Legried caught this largemouth bass in Wingra Creek near its mouth on Lake Monona in Madison on June 3. She is a dietary science major at UW-Madison. PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, have been found in the lake. Studies have also shown that the chemicals have been linked to reproductive and developmental, liver and kidney and immunological effects in laboratory animals, and have caused tumors and increased cholesterol levels.
